IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING ABSENTEE BALLOT RETURN DATES FOR DECEMBER 4 RUNOFF

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING ABSENTEE BALLOT RETURN DATES FOR DECEMBER 4 RUNOFF

Pursuant to a Consent Order entered by United States District Judge Amy Totenberg, any absentee ballot for the December 4, 2018 runoff that is postmarked on or before December 4, 2018 and received by the county elections office on or before Friday, December 7, 2018 and is otherwise valid, shall be counted.

Generally under Georgia law, absentee ballots have to be received by Election Day in order to be counted; however, the Secretary of State’s office has agreed that counties must accept otherwise valid absentee ballots for the December 4th runoff that are postmarked by December 4, 2018 and received by the county elections office no later than December 7, 2018. This rule is only in effect for the December 4, 2018 runoff due to the fact that the certification of the November 6, 2018 election was delayed by order of federal courts. In all future elections, the normal rule that absentee ballots must be received by Election Day remains in effect.

A copy of the consent order is here. A press release with additional information is here.
