Secretary of State Kemp Launches Online Voter Registration and Mobile Voting Information Application
Augusta – Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp today launched two new technology advances that will serve Georgia voters. The first is online voter registration, as well as a mobile application that enables voter registration and will have all the capabilities of “My Voter Page”.
“In 2012, I worked with legislative leaders to craft a law that would allow for online voter registration. We did this because Georgian’s deserve to be able to register to vote or change their information with as much ease as possible. This not only will provide benefits to the voter, but also for all 159 Georgia counties,” said Kemp.
Georgia citizens will have to a have a valid Georgia driver’s license in order to use the online voter registration system.
Counties will be able to process new registrations in the same way that the Department of Driver Services sends electronic registration information. Less paper will create efficiencies that will save time and money.
“I want to personally thank the Department of Driver Services for their assistance in this operation,” said Kemp. “They have been a great partner.”
The “My Voter Page” was launched in March of 2010. It gave Georgia voters the opportunity to view their specific sample ballot, find their early voting and election day polling locations, check voter registration status and track the status of their absentee ballot. All of this information is currently available on the Android platform and will be available on the Apple platform later this week. Just search for “GA Votes” in the app store.
Kemp launched the new systems this morning at a combined Georgia Election Officials Association/Voter Registrars Association of Georgia annual meeting in Augusta, GA with election leaders from across the state. It is believed that Georgia is the first state in the nation to offer both online registration as well as an innovative mobile application that also enables voter registration like “My Voter Page”.
Brian Kemp has been Secretary of State since January 2010. Among the offices wide-ranging responsibilities, the Secretary of State is charged with conducting efficient and secure elections, the registration of corporations, and the regulation of securities and professional license holders.
