GA Board of Prof. Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage & Family Therapists
The Board is charged by law with regulating the practice of professional counseling, social work, and marriage and family therapy in order to protect the health, safety and welfare of the people of Georgia. It does so by enforcing the education and training requirements established by law for licensure in each profession, by adopting and enforcing a code of ethics governing licensees, by establishing and enforcing continuing education requirements, and by addressing unlicensed practice in these professions.
Verifications of Licensure from other state licensure Boards may be e-mailed to the Georgia Composite Board: firstname.lastname@example.org
Rule Changes - VERY IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ - APC & LPC
Some sections of Board Rules 135-5-.01 Associate Professional Counselor, and 135-5-.02 Professional Counselor, changed effective March 17, 2015, and other sections will change after September 30, 2018 - so please review them carefully.
The rules 135-5-.01 and 135-5-.02 currently posted on the Board web page accessed by clicking on the link titled "Board Rules" in the drop down menu under the tab “Laws, Policies and Rules” (located above), are the rule changes that became effective March 17, 2015 and/or September 30, 2018.
Click HERE for a breakdown of the changes and a copy of the rules as posted for the public hearing held January 9, 2015 to adopt these rule changes. The documents linked to here will give you a line-by-line understanding of what has changed, by the dates the changes became, or will become, effective. Please take time to review these documents before calling, e-mailing or faxing in your questions as the Board staff feel all your questions should be answered within these pages.
Remember, only certain sections become effective on March 17, 2015, whereas other sections not until after September 30, 2018 (i.e. October 1, 2018).
You may e-mail the Board @ ExamBoards-Healthcare@sos.state.ga.us, fax questions to 866-888-7127, or contact the Georgia Licensed Professional Counselors Association for assistance.
Questions sent via e-mail, or fax, are much easier for staff to provide a clear, accurate answer as opposed to calling our customer service number, 478-207-2440. However, you may certainly call this number if desired and someone will respond back to you as soon as possible.
(Click on the link HERE for the rules as they were IN EFFECT BEFORE the March 17, 2015 changes became effective, and the future rules section amendments that will become effective September 30, 2018.)
