This division is also helpful for those who wish to incorporate a for-profit or nonprofit corporation, limited liability company, limited partnership, or foreign entities, as well as reserve a name, file for Articles of Incorporation, request a letter of good standing and file service of process. do I obtain more information on running for a political office?
This information can be obtained through the Secretary of State’s Elections Division at 404-656-2871. This department can also provide information on voter registration, campaign disclosure reports, campaign contributions and the State of Georgia Official Directory. can I check the registration status of a charity?
You may check the legitimacy of a charity by contacting our Securities and Business Regulations Division at 404-656-3920. This agency can also provide information on rules and regulations concerning investment advisors, selling securities, broker dealers, cemeteries, pre-need funeral arrangements and charities.
can I find information on records management?
The Secretary of State’s Archives Division can assist you with proper procedures for storing government records. This division provides information on the history of Georgia and can assist you with family history research. You may contact them at 404-756-4860.
Who are my elected officials?
If you are registered to vote in the state of Georgia, you may look up your senator, representative and congressman by accessing our “My Voter Page ." You may also contact your local voter registration office.

The licensing boards are responsible for the licensing of over 60 trades and professions. They process applications, administer examinations and issue professional licenses to qualified individuals. You may contact the Professional Licensing Boards at 478-207-2440.
How do I buy a state flag?
The Secretary of State's Office will have flags available for sale to the general public after all government agencies and offices have received new state flags. Private flag vendors will begin offering the new flag for sale to the public before the state does. Consult your local Yellow Pages for a flag vendor in your area.
can I obtain a business license?
Business licenses are obtained from the city or county in which you plan to do business. Your local Chamber of Commerce can provide you with contact information for the business license division in your area. Contact information is also listed in the blue pages of your local telephone directory.
can I find more information concerning becoming a notary?
The Georgia Superior Court Clerks’ Cooperative Authority’s Notary Division can provide you with information on an existing notary, as well as procedures for becoming a notary in the State of Georgia. This division also handles Apostilles for Georgia.

Commercial Code (UCC)?
UCCs are filed with the Clerk of Superior Court of the county in which you are filing. For further information you may contact Georgia Superior Court Clerks’ Cooperative Authority.
What is the difference between the Great Seal and an Apostille?
Countries are given the opportunity to sign a treaty with the Hague Convention. This establishes the procedures in which official documents are to be authenticated for each country. Documents for those countries that choose to sign the treaty are required to have an Apostille, while those who choose not to sign require the Great Seal. For documents requiring an Apostille, contact the Georgia Superior Court Clerks’ Cooperative Authority at 404-327-6023. State tax identification numbers are issued by the Georgia Department of Revenue. This agency also provides information regarding state taxes and unclaimed money or property as well as obtaining a license to sell retail products and alcohol and tobacco in the State of Georgia. To obtain a federal tax identification number you should contact the Internal Revenue Service.

Medical doctors are licensed through the Composite State Board of Medical Examiners. To obtain information about a doctor or to find out how to become licensed as a doctor or physician’s assistant in Georgia, contact the Board.

Mortgage companies are regulated through the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance. This agency can also provide you with information on existing banks and loan companies as well as obtaining a mortgage broker license.

Day care center licenses are issued by Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning www.decal.state.ga.us. This agency also administers the nationally known Georgia Pre-K Program, licenses home-based child care, administers federal nutrition programs, manages voluntary quality enhancement programs, houses the Head Start Collaboration Office, distributes federal funding to enhance the quality and availability of child care, and works collaboratively with Georgia child care resource and referral agencies and organizations throughout the state to enhance early care and education. You should contact the Governor’s Office of Consumer Affairs to file a complaint against a telemarketing company. The Georgia Public Service Commission also provides a service that allows you avoid telemarketing calls by registering your phone number on the Georgia No Call List.
can I obtain a certified copy of a birth
Birth records are maintained through Vital Records. You may contact them at 404-679-4701. Vital Records also allows you to order your birth certificate over the phone using a credit card. To use this method, call 1-877-572-6343. You may also choose to contact the Probate Court of your county of birth.
