Our panelists will discuss how Georgia entrepreneurs can set themselves up for financial security.

Donna Lowry, Host, GPB's Lawmakers

Award wining journalist with a passion for story telling, Donna Lowry spent nearly 30 years at WXIA-TV, 11Alive News, the NBC affiliate where she created the acclaimed Class Act and Class Notes segments allowing her to honor hundreds of metro Atlanta teachers while giving her a unique view of education in action. Most recently, she served as chief communications officer for Fulton County Schools. She also worked as director of communications for the Cobb County School District. Both managerial positions allowed her to continue spotlighting innovative, creative and exceptional news in education. Her work has garnered her seven Emmys and three Gabriel Awards. She has also won three national Gabriel Awards from that Catholic Press Association as well as prestigious honors from the National Association of Black Journalists, Atlanta Association of Black Journalists, Georgia Associated Press, Society of Professional Journalists, Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE).

Nicholas Downey, Engineer, Founder CEO, Nead Werx, Inc.

Nickolas (Nick) is founder and CEO of MerchLogix, Inc., an Atlanta-based software company. Nick graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2002 with a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and lives in Atlanta with his son Finnegan. Nick is a former member of the Atlanta Technology Angels and sits on the Board of Directors of several Atlanta organizations. Nick has served as a coach for the Georgia Tech Business Plan competition, and the Startup Runway Foundation. 

Anita Davis, President and Chief Funding Matchmaker, Praxis Strategic Solutions

Anita Davis’ credentials include a certificate in Women’s Business Entrepreneurship from Cornell University, the Women Business Enterprise Certification (WBE), and the Women Owned Small Business Certification (WOSB). Her 20-year tenure as a Vice President and loan officer with SunTrust, BB&T, and Chase Banks equipped her with broad and deep commercial lending expertise. Currently, Anita leads Praxis Strategic Solutions and specializes in navigating the funding process which drives clients to the loan closing table. Clients acquire the capital needed to implement their business expansion goals. Over the years, Anita has successfully helped clients acquire millions of dollars in capital that becomes the catalyst and fuel for small business growth.

Ashish Mistry, Investor & Advisor, BLH Ventures, Inc. 

Ashish functions as an investor and adviser to young companies. His operating experience includes leadership roles with high-growth companies within Information Security, SaaS, and E-commerce. Mistry is the former CEO of KontrolFreek – an innovative lifestyle brand in the video game market.  Ashish’s first entrepreneurial role was as co-founder of Virtex Networks (Acquired by Leapfrog Services), then as an early team member of AirDefense (Acquired by NYSE: MOT). Mistry also spent two tours as an EIR at Georgia Tech’s Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC), working with start-ups across Georgia.  Ashish is also active in community organizations including current and prior board positions with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Venture Atlanta and the Atlanta CEO Council, as well as serving on committees with the Metro Atlanta Chamber. Mistry is also active in YPO. He is a graduate of Emory University and resides with his wife and children in Atlanta.
