Important Information About License Renewal

Please be sure to read each question on the application carefully before entering a response! Your application will have to be reviewed by the Board if you indicate that you have failed to complete the continuing education requirements, are not a US Citizen, have been arrested and/or convicted of an offense, been in treatment for substance abuse/misuse/mental disorders, have been disciplined or sanctioned by any other state or regulatory Board or failure to submit the required Notice of Intent documentation.  You may also be required to submit the following:

·  A signed, detailed letter of explanation;

·  A certified copy of the final disposition (outcome) of your arrest case and/or a copy of the arrest incident report if the case has not yet gone to court for adjudication;

·  A certified copy of treatment records and/or the action taken by the other state or regulatory Board;

·  Certificates of completion for all continuing education activities completed in the current biennium (January 1, 2019 - December 31, 2020); and/or

·  An affidavit of citizenship and current, unexpired secure and verifiable documents, if applicable.

·  A complete “Notice of Intent to Dispense Form” which can be found in the Application/Form Downloads section of the of the Board website.

If you know that your application will indicate any of the above it is strongly suggested that you apply for renewal prior to August 2021 in order for your renewal application to be addressed by the Board prior to the expiration date of the license.

NOTICE OF INTENT TO DISPENSE AND PDMP REGISTRATION

If you are a licensed podiatrist that is dispensing drugs in Georgia or intends to dispense drugs in Georgia, you must submit a complete Notice of Intent to Dispense Drugs form and register with the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program in Georgia.  The only exception applies to those who are federal employees at a federal facility.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I HAVE APPLIED?

In the event you have supplied all of the required information to complete the renewal application prior to August 30, 2020 and your application requires additional review by the Board, the license will remain in “Active-Renewal Pending” status with the 08/30/2021 expiration date until the Board has rendered a decision on the application.  The license is not considered to be lapsed, inactive or invalid based on O.C.G.A. §50-13-18(b) which states the following:

(b) When a licensee has made timely and sufficient application for the renewal of a license or for a new license with reference to any activity of a continuing nature, the existing license does not expire until the application has been finally determined by the agency and, in case the application is denied or the terms of the new license limited, until the last day for seeking review of the agency order or at a later date fixed by order of the reviewing court.

WHAT CAN I DO TO ENSURE THAT MY LICENSE IS RENEWED TIMELY?

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!  Now that the online and paper renewal applications are available, it is imperative that licensees quickly make application and submit all required renewal documentation before August 30, 2021 particularly if your circumstances are such as that which was noted above.  Any documents received/postmarked after that date, to include any continuing education documents submitted in response to your selection for audit, will no longer be valid for the initial renewal cycle.  The license will then enter the lapsed-late renewal period and the license status will be reflected as such. Should this occur, the licensee will be required to satisfy additional conditions in order to renew the license.
