Ballot Image Audit Proves Georgia Elections are Most Accurate in Nation
Atlanta – Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced that the results of the comprehensive ballot image audit proved the outcome of the May 19th General Primary and Nonpartisan General Election.
The second audit, like the Risk Limiting Audit, confirmed the outcome of all 1,785 contests reviewed.
For the ballot image audit, all 2,081,900 ballot cards cast were analyzed, and 159 discrepancies were found, resulting in 99.9924% of ballots showing no discrepancies.
“We are currently the only state in the nation conducting an audit at this granular level,” said Secretary Raffensperger. “This level of oversight ensures that our systems are not just operating but operating with near-perfect accuracy. It proves, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the process is accurate, the machines are accurate, and the counts are accurate.”
Further analysis of the data shows that there were 143 discrepancies out of the total 43,833 hand-marked ballots cast and 16 discrepancies out of the total 2,038,067 ballot-marking device ballots cast. If that same error rate was applied during a presidential election year with more than 5 million votes cast, the error rate for hand-marked ballots would result in almost 17,000 discrepancies.
“This finding is significant. It demonstrates that the use of ballot-marking devices and our secure ballot counting devices is fundamentally more accurate and more secure than relying on hand-marked, hand-counted ballots,” said Secretary Raffensperger.
