Work at the Office of the Secretary of State

Applying for a position, either full-time or internship, is an initial step that allows our organization to review your qualifications. As such, when submitting an application or résumé, please do not include your personal identifiable information such as social security number, birth date or information regarding criminal history at this time. We will request this information if the applicant is offered a position within our organization.
Current Career Opportunities
The Georgia Secretary of State's Internship Program
The Secretary of State’s office is happy to provide a paid internship program for Georgia students interested in learning more about government and the work done in the Office of the Secretary of State. Students will get an inside look at how an important state-level agency operates and, more importantly, will get a chance to be a part of the team.
Interested students can work in one of the following divisions of office:
- Administration (HR, Finance, Accounting)
- Information Technology
- Corporations
- Professional Licensing
- Securities
- Elections
- Front Office
Fall and spring internships are 16 weeks, and the summer internship is 13 weeks. Internship dates coincide with the academic schedules of most Georgia colleges, universities, and law schools.
- Internships are approved on a semester basis
- Locations are Atlanta and Macon
- Housing is not provided
- Typical work hours per work week (20) for part-time and (40) for full-time
- Internships are paid at Federal Minimum Wage
Interns must:
- Be a junior or senior in a Georgia college or university, or be enrolled in an accredited law school
- Be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.
- Provide a current official transcript
- Pass a criminal history records check
- Have a current grade point average of 2.75 or above

All application packets should include:
- A completed application. Download application>>
- One essay, between 300 and 500 words, discussing the applicants academic work, career aspirations, and how an internship in the Secretary of State’s office will build on their academic work and help them achieve their career goals
- Current resume
- Two letters of recommendation, which can either be emailed directly to the Office of the Secretary of State by the recommenders or sent in hard copy by mail
