Georgia Voters Shatter 2M Mark on Day 9 of Early Voting
Atlanta – Wednesday, October 23rd marked the ninth day of Early Voting for the November 5th Presidential Election. On Wednesday, Georgia voters surpassed the 2 million mark, and as of Thursday at 1:30pm surpassed the 2.125 million mark with 2,125,877 check-ins, shattering previous Early Voting performance.
On day nine of Early Voting in previous years, 634,048 (2018), 1,171,984 (2020), and 1,020,093 (2022) voters had turned out for in-person Early Voting.
“Georgia voters know we’ve made it easy to cast a ballot. It’s really that simple,” said Secretary Raffensperger. “Over the past four years we’ve worked tirelessly to prepare for this election by adding Early Voting days and investing in infrastructure, only to be rewarded with the lies of Jim Crow 2.0 and a missed All-Star Game. We’re battled tested and ready, despite the critics.”
Statewide, reports of long lines were minimal, though there were some reports of voters waiting in line for more than 30 minutes from a few popular voting locations in metro areas. Early voting turnout is expected to increase during the final week of early voting, and all Georgia counties will have two Early Voting Saturdays, with the second on Saturday, October 27th. Georgia is recognized as a national leader in elections. It was the first state in the country to implement the trifecta of automatic voter registration, at least 17 days of early voting (which has been called the “gold standard”), and no-excuse absentee voting. Georgia continues to set records for voter turnout and election participation, seeing the largest increase in average turnout of any other state in the 2018 midterm election and record turnout in 2020, and 2022. 2022 achieved the largest single day of in-person early voting turnout in Georgia midterm history utilizing Georgia’s secure, paper ballot voting system. Most recently, Georgia ranked #2 for Election Integrity by the Heritage Foundation, a top ranking for Voter Accessibility by the Center for Election Innovation & Research and tied for number one in Election Administration by the Bipartisan Policy Center.
