Call for Special Primary for District Attorney, Atlantic Judicial Circuit

CALL FOR SPECIAL PRIMARY FOR DISTRICT ATTORNEY, ATLANTIC JUDICIAL CIRCUIT

Notice is hereby given that a Special Primary shall be held on November 3, 2026, in Bryan, Evans, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, and Tattnall Counties for District Attorney in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit, to fill a vacancy due to the withdrawal of Billy Joe Nelson, Jr. A runoff, if needed, shall be held on December 1, 2026.

Pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 21-2-134(d), qualifying is only open to members of the Republican party since the withdrawal resulted in there being no candidate for the position on the ballot for the November 2026 General Election.

Qualifying for the District Attorney in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit Special Primary will be held at the office of the Georgia Republican Party, Inc., 470 E. Paces Ferry Rd., Atlanta, GA 30305.

The dates and hours of qualifying will be Monday, August 24, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2026, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m., and Wednesday, August 26, 2026, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 1:00 p.m.  The qualifying fee shall be $3,974.19. 

Monday, October 5 is the last day to register to vote for all persons who are not registered to vote and who desire to vote in the Special Primary.  Advance in-person absentee voting will begin on Tuesday, October 13.
