Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger Hosts Tele-Town Hall Helping Military Families Protect Their Finances during Coronavirus
(Atlanta) -- Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is pleased to announce his office’s fifth She Leads tele-town hall titled, Mission Readiness: Helping Military Families Protect Their Finances From Coronavirus Challenges.
“While our brave men and women in uniform are the best trained in the world on the battlefield, we want to make sure they have the tools they need to succeed on the home front as well,” said Raffensperger. “I am honored to help our troops and their families better protect their finances so they can weather the economic turmoil caused by COVID-19. I thank them for their sacrifice and their dedication to our country.”
The tele-town hall, hosted through the She Leads financial literacy program, will provide financial insight and advice for military families during the current economic turmoil. The event will take place on September 15, 2020, 4pm-5pm. The tele-town hall is free and open to all Georgians.
Service members, their families, and military retirees face economic challenges during uncertain financial times like all other Americans but may also face unique hardships, especially if they’re planning to transition to a civilian job or if their spouse’s income is reduced.
Our town hall discussion will focus on access to special programs and benefits that can help our Georgia military families and veterans during difficult financial times. Topic areas that will be covered include military emergency relief funds and other programs, strategies for your Thrift Savings Plan, taking advantage of tax breaks, low-cost insurance and other opportunities for military families to save, how to protect your finances when leaving the military, and how to avoid ID theft and financial scams.
Confirmed speakers for this free tele-town hall include Personal Finance Journalist Kim Lankford; Financial Readiness Manager - FINRA Investor Education Foundation Shay Cook, MS, AFC®, FFC®; Licensed in Georgia and Alabama Realtor® Tiffiney Graham, and Senior, Enrollment Counselor, Military and Adult Learners at Columbus State University Tamara Hicks.
The event will be moderated by the host of GPB’s Lawmakers, Donna Lowry.
She Leads is a women’s financial empowerment seminar series hosted by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger as part of his multi-faceted financial literacy platform administered through the Securities and Charities Division in partnership with ITP. These free tele-town halls feature industry leaders to help increase attendees’ knowledge about money, their own personal relationship to money, and financial issues and strategies for growing their wealth.
The Office of the Georgia Secretary of State is looking forward to providing this educational program to military families across all 159 counties.
