Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger Hosts Webinar Protecting the Elderly and Disabled from Financial Exploitation

May 10th, 2023

Atlanta - Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is announcing that She Leads will be hosting the third webinar of this year “SeniorSAFE: Protecting Your Finances.” This free webinar will take place on Tuesday, May 23 at 6pm. Registration is free and open to all Georgians.

Elder and disabled adults may have to rely on others for help in their personal and financial activities. Unfortunately, there are people who seek to take advantage of elder adults and disabled adults for their own personal financial gain. Knowing the signs of financial abuse may help save you, your loved one, or friend from devastating financial scams or other fraud. Our panelists will give you tips and resources to help spot, prevent and report elder financial exploitation.

“Georgians are hard-working and kind people,” said Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. “As they age, they’re being taken advantage of by criminals who prey on that kind and hardworking spirit – and they are left as victims of financial fraud. It’s why we dedicated the last legislative session to ensuring the passage of SB84, The SPEAR Act, to safeguard our Seniors from financial predators.”

The event will be moderated by Moderator, Host /Producer of Lawmakers and Lawmakers: Beyond The Dome on GPB-TV Donna Lowry. Speakers for this free webinar include Christine N. Kieffer, Senior Director, FINRA Investor Education Foundation; Ron Long, Principal, Long Life Consulting; Anna Thomas, Section Manager, Forensic Special Initiatives Unit; and Simone Williams, Media & Public Relations Lead, BBB Atlanta & NE Georgia.

“The protection of our elder citizens and vulnerable adults from being financially exploited is always a top priority for the Georgia Securities Division,” said Noula Zaharis, Division Director.

She Leads is a financial empowerment seminar series hosted by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger as part of his multi-faceted financial literacy effort and is administered through the Securities and Charities divisions of the Office of Secretary of State.
