Secretary of State Securities Division Sponsors “Funding the Future” Financial Literacy Program at Several Georgia Schools
Atlanta - Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s Securities Division partnered with Funding The Future, a nonprofit organization focused on promoting financial literacy in schools. The Secretary of State sponsored Funding the Future financial literacy tours at Shiloh High School in Gwinnett County and Smitha Middle School, South Cobb High School, and Garrett Middle School in Cobb County. This program accomplished 10 shows in 4 days, educating more than 3,300 students.
“The next generation of Georgians must be prepared to make savvy financial decisions,” said Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. "One bad financial decision early on can severely limit potential growth. Our office is a committed partner in fighting that.”
The Securities Division has a shared vision with “Funding the Future” to educate students on the importance of smart financial decisions. The students learned about financial literacy with a live musical performance by Carter Hulsey coupled with a multi-media presentation and a dialogue around financial literacy between students and the musician. Students were given free financial literacy booklets provided by the Securities Division called the Investor & Financial Literacy Guide, Strategies for Investing Wisely & Avoiding Financial Fraud, as well as, Starting Your Financial Future: Making Informed Decisions When Starting Your New Job.
