The Georgia Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) is an electronic database used to monitor the prescribing and dispensing of controlled substances. The PDMP provides prescribers and pharmacists with critical information regarding a patient’s controlled substance prescription history. It can help eliminate duplicative prescribing and overprescribing of controlled substances and protect patients at risk of misuse.
For information about accessing the Georgia PDMP through approved electronic health records (EHR), please visit: PDMP Integration.
During the 2017 legislative session, the Georgia General Assembly passed House Bill 249 which provided for several changes to the PDMP:
- Effective July 1, 2017, dispensers will be required to enter prescription information for Schedule II, III, IV, V controlled substances within 24 hours. This will provide prescribers more efficient access to information with less wait time as they make the best clinical decisions possible for their patients.
- All prescribers will be required to register in the PDMP by Jan. 1, 2018.
- Beginning July 1, 2018, prescribers will be required to check PDMP before prescribing opiates or cocaine derivatives in Schedule II drugs or benzodiazepines.
To register in the GA PDMP, go to Georgia.pmpaware.net/login. Prescribers and Dispensers will need:
- Name
- Employment Information
- Primary contact information
- Last 4 digits of SSN
- GA Professional License Number
- DEA number (personal or employer)
- NPI Number (personal or employer)
In the PDMP, a “Delegate” is a person who has been authorized to act as a search agent for a supervising PDMP Prescriber or Pharmacist. Delegates will need to create an account with the above information. Additionally, they must list their supervisors and upload a signed copy of the Delegate’s Responsibility Form. The form cannot be digitally signed. Supervisors must log in to approve the delegate’s account.
It is the supervisor’s responsibility to manage their delegates. Refer to the Georgia PDMP User Support Manual for instructions on how to do so.
