About The Department

The Secretary of State, and the Professional Licensing Boards Division by designation of authority pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 43-19-2, has the power and authority to regulate the issuance, renewal, and reinstatement of certificates of registration as a professional geologist; to refuse to issue a certificate of registration; to suspend, revoke, refuse to renew or discipline a registrant upon a determination that such registrant has engaged in conduct which would justify denial of registration; and to promulgate rules and regulations to implement and enforce the Registration of Professional Geologists Act, codified at O.C.G.A. § 43-19-1, et seq.

House Bill 1254, which became effective July 1, 2026, amended O.C.G.A. § 43-19 to dissolve the Georgia State Board of Registration for Professional Geologists and transferred the responsibility for the regulation of professional geologists in the State of Georgia to the Secretary of State.
