Georgia Board of Low Voltage Contractors FAQ

To apply, submit the current version of the necessary application form, fee, and all required documents to this office. 

All application forms with complete instructions are available to download/print on our website.

Once received, an analyst will verify that your application is complete and submit it to the Electrical Board for consideration. 

The Board considers each application individually, but recommendations may include the following:

  • Approval to sit for the exam
  • Request for more information
  • Denial of application

Further instructions are provided to you when a decision is reached.

Georgia currently has no active reciprocity agreements with other states. Reciprocity with North Carolina was paused effective November 26, 2024.

In addition to the completed application form and processing fees, you must submit the following:

  • Secure & Verifiable Document
  • background check from a law enforcement agency
  • 3 completed reference forms (at least 1 of your references must be a licensed low voltage contractor)

NOTE: Additional documents/information may be requested at the Board’s discretion.

No, the Licensing Board does not register Low Voltage Contracting companies.

Once the Board approves you to sit for the exam, you’ll receive an Exam Approval Letter with instructions on registering through our testing vendor, PSI. Exam approval letters are valid for one year.

If you fail, you can register with PSI to retake the exam. Exam approvals are valid for one year. 

The renewal period for Low Voltage contractors is June through August of odd years. 

Licenses can be renewed online via your GOALS portal.

Reminders for renewals are sent to licensees via the email on file with your account (NOTE: Be sure to check your spam folder if you are not receiving emails).

No, Continuing Education is not required for Low Voltage Contractors. 

An SVD is an acceptable form of identification, such as a driver’s license or passport.
