Independent candidates must circulate nomination petitions to gather a specified number of signatures from registered voters eligible to vote in that election. The signers of that petition must live in the district the candidate is running in. The number of signatures required is different for each race, whether in a district or statewide. To view the signature requirements for the 2026 election cycle, please see the Nomination Petition Signature form under "General Information."
More information is available in the Georgia law.
Note that candidates also have campaign-finance reporting requirements with the State Ethics Commission.

Candidates and their campaigns usually want data to help plan their activities and contact people who are eligible to vote in the election. This website has convenient reports on past election results. You can also go to the online store to download or order the lists.
Candidates can access Voter History Files which, when paired with the voter list, can provide insight into a voter’s past election participation.
Candidates and third-party groups can access absentee voter files to find out which voters have already cast ballot early, in-person or absentee by mail.
Candidates and political parties can have poll watchers observe nearly any aspect of election administration. Learn more about Poll Watcher Training.
How To Guides For Voting
County Voter Contacts
Voting is handled locally. Your neighbors staff the polls and make sure elections work.
Your local county officials run elections. They make decisions about polling places, how many voting machines should be used and on hiring poll workers. They also count the ballots.
The registrar in your county determines if you’re eligible to vote.
