Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s Securities Division hosted “Money Talks” financial literacy program at Norcross High School in Gwinnett County last week. This program strongly supports the Securities Division’s goal to empower, educate, and encourage students in Georgia.

“Financial literacy is crucial to empowering our next generation of leaders," said Secretary Raffensperger.

Moderated by Atlanta radio personality Art Terrell, panelists Ebony Francis, an Accountant at AvestiCorp, Sileta Bell, President of The Bell Consultants, and Leanne Francis, Senior Consultant at Deloitte Consulting, led insightful and engaging conversations with Norcross High School’s 3DE students on practical money skills which includes, budgeting, saving and investing, maximizing income, credit and loans, and minimizing the cost of college.

“Students are taking on new roles in the economy—choosing a college or career, getting their first job, and receiving their first paychecks. The Georgia Secretary of State is committed to financially empowering our students, equipping them  with the knowledge and skills they need to make good money decisions,” said Noula Zaharis, Division Director.

The Secretary of State Securities Division is a leader in improving financial literacy through outreach and education. Recently, the Division released two resources for Georgians: Investor & Financial Literacy Guide, Strategies for Investing Wisely & Avoiding Financial Fraud, as well as, Starting Your Financial Future: Making Informed Decisions When Starting Your New Job.

The Securities Division would like to extend a special thank you to Norcross High School Principal Will Bishop and 3DE Director of School Leadership, IB MYP Co-Coordinator Sage Hernandez for giving us the opportunity to empower Norcross High students to be financially savvy.
