Georgia Board of Electrical Contractors FAQs
To apply, submit the current version of the necessary application form, fee, and all required documents to this office.
All application forms with complete instructions are available to download/print on our website.
Once received, an analyst will verify that your application is complete and submit it to the Electrical Board for consideration.
The Board considers each application individually, but recommendations may include the following:
- Approval to sit for the exam
- Request for more information
- Denial of application

No, the Board licenses Electrical Contractors, not electricians.
No, Georgia does not currently offer licensure by Reciprocity at this time (effective May 2026).
In addition to the completed application form and processing fees, you must submit the following:
- Secure & Verifiable Document
- Background check from your local law enforcement agency
- 3 completed reference forms (at least 1 of your references must be a licensed electrical contractor)
NOTE: Additional documents/information may be requested at the Board’s discretion.
No, the Board does not register Electrical Contracting companies.
Check the status of your application in GOALS.
Once the Board approves you to sit for the exam, you’ll receive an Exam Approval Letter with instructions on registering through our testing vendor, PSI. Exam approval letters are valid for one year.

If you fail the exam twice, you must submit a certificate of completion for a Board approved review course before you can sit for the exam again.

The renewal period for Electrical contractors is April through June of even years.
Licenses can be renewed online via your GOALS portal.
Reminders for renewals are sent to licensees via the email on file with your account (NOTE: Be sure to check your spam folder if you are not receiving emails).
Yes, 4 continuing education hours are required each year (a total of 8 hours per renewal). Acceptable continuing education providers are described in Board Rule 121-4-.07(4).
You may be randomly selected for an audit of your completed CE hours. If selected, instructions will be provided.

Please log into your account in GOALS to request a license verification. You must also provide $35.00 fee.
An SVD is an acceptable form of identification, such as a driver’s license or passport.
