After you Apply – What to Expect

  • Processing Time – Applications are generally processed within 20 business days of receipt, excluding weekends and holidays, and are reviewed by staff in order of receipt. Processing times can vary based on individual circumstances and volume.
    • If you receive a deficiency letter, your 20-day count restarts when the Board receives your correct and complete documentation.
    • Incomplete Applications Policy - Incomplete applications may be withdrawn if noted deficiencies are not satisfied within 60 days of said notification. If your application is withdrawn, you will be required to restart the application process to be considered for licensure, including submission of all required documents and fees.
    • Completed applications will first be reviewed by Board staff and may then be presented to the Board at a scheduled meeting.
    • Applications must be complete at least 15 days before a Board meeting to be included on that meeting’s agenda. If not, they will be reviewed at the following meeting.

  • Keep Your Contact Info Updated
    • Email is the primary means of communication with you about your application. Be sure your email address is always correct and current.
  • A license is required to work
    • You may not legally perform services until you hold an active license.
    • Staff will communicate with you regarding the status of your application, and you may check your application status online.

Veterans Preference Points

Veterans, military service members, transitioning service members and military spouses of the armed forces of the United States, including the National Guard, may be eligible for exam point credits and/or expedited application processes. Download program information>>

GC Individual Application - Examination

If you will be conducting business in your name or as a sole proprietorship, and if you have never been licensed before, you may apply for licensure By Examination.

GC Qualifying Agent Application by Examination

If you will be conducting business in the name of a company registered with the Corporations Division (any business entity that isn’t an individual or sole proprietorship), and you have never held a license, apply for licensure by Examination.

If you will operate under your personal name or as a sole proprietorship and have never held a license before, apply for licensure by Examination. “Limited Tier” places limits on both the maximum contract value and the individual’s required net worth.

Renewal

If you hold a license and need to renew in order to keep your license up to date, apply for licensure renewal before June 30th of the even-numbered year it expires to avoid late fees.

  • To process your renewal, log in to your GOALS account.
  • Click on the License Renewal button on the left-hand side of the page. Enter your login information.
  • If you do not remember your login credentials, click on the link to reset for a “person” type license.
  • Follow the instructions for online renewal specific for your license.
