About the Georgia State Board of Architects and Interior Designers
About The Board
The Georgia General Assembly created the Georgia State Board of Architects in 1919 to protect public health, safety, and welfare in the field of Architecture. Applicants for architect registration must obtain sufficient education, complete an internship, and pass the national examination. The Board has the authority to adopt rules, set standards for licensure, adopt mandatory standards of professional conduct, and investigate and discipline unauthorized, negligent, or incompetent practice. The Board is comprised of nine members appointed by the Governor. Six members are registered architects, two members are registered interior designers, and one member is appointed from the public at large. All members are appointed for terms of five years.
