Georgia Board of Conditioned Air Contractors - Frequently Asked Questions
To apply, submit the current version of the necessary application form, fee, and all required documents to this office.
All application forms with complete instructions are available to download/print on our website.
Once received, an analyst will verify that your application is complete and submit it to the Conditioned Air Board for consideration.
The Board considers each application individually, but recommendations may include the following:
- Approval to sit for the exam
- Request for more information
- Denial of application
Further instructions are provided to you when a decision is reached.
Reciprocity with other states is not offered at this time.
In addition to the completed application form and processing fees, you must submit the following:
- Secure & Verifiable Document
- EPA card (Type II or higher)
- Background check from a law enforcement agency
- 3 completed reference forms (from either a licensed conditioned air contractor, professional engineer, registered architect, or inspector)
- Proof of completion for the Manuals J&D (or AIR1060) course
- Non-restricted applicants must also submit proof of completion for Manuals N&Q or Carrier Design 1, 2, & 3
NOTE: Additional documents/information may be requested at the Board’s discretion.
The required courses must be completed through a Board approved provider.

Once the Board approves you to sit for the exam, you’ll receive an Exam Approval Letter with instructions on registering through our testing vendor, PSI. Exam approval letters are valid for one year.

If you fail the exam twice, you must submit a certificate of completion for a Board approved review course before you can sit for the exam again.

Yes. To register your Conditioned Air Company, review and complete the following form: Business Registration Form - Conditioned Air.
To make changes to your business registration, review and complete the form: Conditioned Air - Business Severance Notification.
The renewal period for Conditioned Air contractors is September through November of odd years. Licenses can be renewed online here: Renewal Login, or you may request a paper renewal form through the mail.
Reminders for renewals are sent to licensees via the email on file with your account (NOTE: Be sure to check your spam folder if you are not receiving emails).
Yes, 4 continuing education hours are required each year (a total of 8 hours per renewal).
Continuing Education is not required for Conditioned Air Contractors who are also licensed Professional Engineers.
You may be randomly selected for an audit of your completed CE hours. If selected, instructions will be provided.

An SVD is an acceptable form of identification, such as a driver’s license or passport.

Licenses from other states may have the letter “H” to designate that you are licensed to do boiler work. However, Boiler Work licenses in Georgia are issued through another agency, not the Conditioned Air Board.
